Royal Kona is a Hawaii family vacation resort that is located in the perfect spot for family dining outings. With great dining options at the resort itself, you won't lack for fine food even if you never set foot off the resort; but if you do, you'll find our central location in Kailua-Kona puts us within minutes of many great local restaurants, most of which are family-friendly.
At Royal Kona
Don The Beachcomber
Dine right at water's edge at Royal Kona Resort's answer to fine dining - Don the Beachcomber. Don's serves award-winning cuisine and fine dinners, but don't miss the restaurant in the morning, either - we lay out one of the finest breakfast buffets in town.
In addition to its main dining area, the restaurant also features a Mai Tai bar and a breezeway lounge.
The Royal Kona Luau
If Don's provides the American restaurant experience, our evening Luau is your family's chance to see and taste a real Polynesian feast. More than a performance or a buffet, a Luau is an evening-long crash course in authentic Hawaiian good living. The performance program includes fire-twirling, traditional dance, music and other island arts. Several palate-pleasing courses of seafood, chicken and meats are preceded by another fascinating show - a live demonstration of cooking with an imu - a Hawaiian-style earth oven, where a whole pig is wrapped in banana leaves and cooked underground for several hours. Warning: the results are so tasty, you'll be tempted to dig one of these in your backyard!
Bongo Ben's Island Cafe
This charming cafe is 3 minutes on foot from our Resort; it's open all day, and customers buzz about the beakfast and lunch selection - basic dishes like eggs, breakfast burritos and omelets get a sumptuous island revamp with fresh and colorful ingredients. It doesn't hurt that Bongo Ben's also has a nice view of the ocean.
Island Lava Java, Bistro Grill
This family-owned bistro, restaurant and grill is 5 minutes' walking time from Royal Kona, and is a coffee-lover's dream. At Lava Java, unobstructed ocean-front seating means you can enjoy the aroma of 100% local Kona coffee mingling with the fresh salty gusts of sea breeze. The restaurant even has a bakery, where all its bread and pastries are produced.
Humpy's Big Island Alehouse
Humpy's (as in "humpback whale") is a 3-minute walk from Resort grounds, and is a favorite tap-house among locals and visitors alike. While it is a bar, it's an open, airy venue with large oceanfront balconies, patios, grass and flowers, and is a popular dining choice with families. Go there with your spouse, or bring all but the youngest children along.
These are just some of the fine food joints that will infuse your stay with Hawaii's incomparable flavors. Reserve your family travel package today and explore Kailua-Kona's food scene for yourself!
