March 2012: The David Bromberg Trio
The David Bromberg Trio played March 31, 2012 at the Royal Kona Resort Luau grounds. Bromberg, a master practitioner of folk, blues and bluegrass was joined by Mark Cosgrove (guitar/mandolin/vocals) and Nate Grower (fiddle/mandolin/vocals). Bromberg known as a "hired gun" for recording artists, including Bob Dylan, the Eagles, Ringo Starr, Willie Nelson and more, is an American multi-instrumentalist, singer, and songwriter. He is known for his quirky, humorous lyrics, and the ability to play rhythm and lead guitar at the same time.

January 2012: Jorma Kaukonen & Chris Smither
Jorma Kaukonen (of Hot Tuna/Jefferson Airplane) and special guest Chris Smither, both masters of acoustic folk blues and renowned for their driving finger-style guitar work, played at the Royal Kona Resort Luau grounds on January 28, 2012. |
August 2011: 3rd Annual Don The Beachcomber Mai Tai Festival
At the 3rd Annual Don the Beachcomber Mai Tai Festival on August 13, 2011, 30 professional bartenders from Scotland, Slovakia, California, Nevada, New York, Washington State, and Hawaii competed for $10,000 cash prize and title of creator of the World's Best Mai Tai. Festival attendees also had the opportunity to taste and vote for the World's Best BBQ and shop local vendors at the Mai Tai Marketplace. Entertainment was provided by local renowned artist Henry Kapono, and alternative rock band Spin Doctors.

August 2011: Spin Doctors Concert
Held on August 13, 2011, the evening concert by Grammy and American Music Awards nominated alternative rock band, Spin Doctors, capped off the 3rd Annual Don the Beachcomber Mai Tai Festival's day of food, drinks and fun. Celebrating the 20th anniversary of their acclaimed album "Pocket Full of Kryptonite", the Spin Doctors played their popular hits "Little Miss Can't Be Wrong" and "Two Princes" as well as performed new material.

August 2011: Henry Kapono CD Release Pool Party
One of the major attractions at the 3rd Annual Don the Beachcomber Mai Tai Festival on August 13, 2011, was a Henry Kapono CD Release Party. Held poolside, Kapono and his band played songs off their new CD and were joined by special guest, Mick Fleetwood, founder of Fleetwood Mac.

May 2011: Toad the Wet Sprocket Concert
Toad the Wet Sprocket performed their mellow, melodic folk-pop songs from the early 90's live on May 6, 2011 with the Eric Gilliom Band opening for them. Even though the event was moved indoors due to rain, guests enjoyed the show immensely.

April 2011: Five for Fighting Concert
John Ondrasik of Five for Fighting performed a moving, intimate concert under the stars on April 21, 2011 at the Oceanfront Luau Gardens at the Royal Kona Resort. Opening performance by Barry Flanagan.

As the finale to the Second Annual Don the Beachcomber Mai Tai Festival popular American alternative rock band, Third Eye Blind performed an up-close and intimate concert in the Resort's Oceanfront Luau Gardens.

August 2010: Second Annual Don the Beachcomber Mai Tai Festival
The Second Annual Don the Beachcomber Mai Tai Festival was held on August 14, 2010 at the Royal Kona Resort. Attendees shopped at the Mai Tai Marketplace featuring local vendors selling artwork, crafts, clothing, and local produce. Local restaurant chefs competed for the title of World's Best BBQ. Bartenders from across the globe competed for the coveted title of World's Best Mai Tai and $10,000 in cash prizes.
