Annual: Don The Beachcomber Mai Tai Festival

Celebrated each August since 2009, the Royal Kona Resort celebrates Don the Beachcomber's creation of everyone's favorite cocktail, the Mai Tai. Festival attendees gather to shop for crafts and island treats from local artisans and merchants at the Farmer's & Crafter's Market, taste and vote for Hawaii's best barbecue at the Battle of the BBQ contest, listen to live music from award-winning, Grammy-nominated musicians, and watch professional bartenders from around the globe compete for the title of World's Best Mai Tai and a $10,000 cash prize. October 2013: Body Glove 60th Anniversary Party

Starting at 4p.m. October 24th and lasting into the wee hours, the Royal Kona Resort celebrated Body Glove's 60th anniversary. Held at the resort's Don's Mai Tai Bar, the event featured entertainment by Island favorite Henry Kapono and guitar playing by Russ Lesser, Body Glove President. Body Glove was the first to design a practical wetsuit in 1953 and has since become one of the largest producers of wetsuits and other water-related gear, apparel and accessories for surfers, divers, beach goers, and others. Lesser became president of the company in 1990. He also formed folk/rock band Thin Ice and plays guitar and does vocals with the group.

May 2012: Popa Chubby Concert

On May 13, 2012, blues-rock guitarist-vocalist Popa Chubby performed at the Royal Kona Resort Luau grounds. Popa Chubby is at the forefront of modern blues-rock, where the mix of intensity and integrity captured in his music has made him one of the genres most popular figures.

March 2012: The David Bromberg Trio

The David Bromberg Trio played March 31, 2012 at the Royal Kona Resort Luau grounds. Bromberg, a master practitioner of folk, blues and bluegrass was joined by Mark Cosgrove (guitar/mandolin/vocals) and Nate Grower (fiddle/mandolin/vocals). Bromberg known as a "hired gun" for recording artists, including Bob Dylan, the Eagles, Ringo Starr, Willie Nelson and more, is an American multi-instrumentalist, singer, and songwriter. He is known for his quirky, humorous lyrics, and the ability to play rhythm and lead guitar at the same time.

January 2012: Jorma Kaukonen & Chris Smither

Jorma Kaukonen (of Hot Tuna/Jefferson Airplane) and special guest Chris Smither, both masters of acoustic folk blues and renowned for their driving finger-style guitar work, played at the Royal Kona Resort Luau grounds on January 28, 2012.

August 2011: Spin Doctors Concert

Held on August 13, 2011, the evening concert by Grammy and American Music Awards nominated alternative rock band, Spin Doctors, capped off the 3rd Annual Don the Beachcomber Mai Tai Festival's day of food, drinks and fun. Celebrating the 20th anniversary of their acclaimed album "Pocket Full of Kryptonite", the Spin Doctors played their popular hits "Little Miss Can't Be Wrong" and "Two Princes" as well as performed new material.



August 2011: Henry Kapono CD Release Pool Party

One of the major attractions at the 3rd Annual Don the Beachcomber Mai Tai Festival on August 13, 2011, was a Henry Kapono CD Release Party. Held poolside, Kapono and his band played songs off their new CD and were joined by special guest, Mick Fleetwood, founder of Fleetwood Mac.



May 2011: Toad the Wet Sprocket Concert

Toad the Wet Sprocket performed their mellow, melodic folk-pop songs from the early 90's live on May 6, 2011 with the Eric Gilliom Band opening for them. Even though the event was moved indoors due to rain, guests enjoyed the show immensely.

April 2011: Five for Fighting Concert

John Ondrasik of Five for Fighting performed a moving, intimate concert under the stars on April 21, 2011 at the Oceanfront Luau Gardens at the Royal Kona Resort. Opening performance by Barry Flanagan.



August 2010: Third Eye Blind Concert

As the finale to the Second Annual Don the Beachcomber Mai Tai Festival popular American alternative rock band, Third Eye Blind performed an up-close and intimate concert in the Resort's Oceanfront Luau Gardens.
